Old village core, new tech-corridor growth

Unionville is Markham's best-known neighbourhood for a reason: a genuinely preserved historic main street with heritage homes, running alongside a lake and trail system, and it commands some of the highest prices in the city as a result. The rest of Markham grew up around it in waves, Milliken and Berczy in the north and east built out through the 1980s and 90s, Cornell built more recently as a planned, walkable New Urbanist community with a defined town centre.

Why the tech corridor matters here

Markham calls itself Canada's high-tech capital, and the Highway 7 corridor is lined with the head offices to back that up. It's shaped who buys here: a large share of Markham's housing stock (detached homes on generous lots, plenty of them from the 1990s and 2000s) sells to buyers who work in or near that corridor and want a short commute to it, not to downtown Toronto.
