Old Oakville, along the lake near the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek, is one of the GTA's most intact historic downtowns, tree-lined streets, heritage homes, and a walkable main street that commands some of the highest prices in the region for exactly that reason. Bronte, a bit further west, has a similar small-harbour character with its own more affordable price range.

The bulk of the market

Most of Oakville's housing stock sits inland from the lake in subdivisions built from the 1970s onward, neighbourhoods like Glen Abbey and River Oaks, where detached homes on generous lots were built specifically for growing families and remain that way today. These areas are consistently associated with some of the strongest school catchments in Halton Region.

Getting around

GO Transit's Lakeshore West line runs through Oakville and Bronte stations into Union Station, and the QEW runs along the city's northern edge, making the highway commute to Toronto or Hamilton straightforward in either direction.
