One of Canada's biggest cities, split into distinct pockets

Mississauga is Canada's sixth-largest city by population, and it never really had one downtown until it built one on purpose. City Centre, around Square One, is the newest and densest part, condo towers that have gone up over the last two decades. Everywhere else, the housing stock tells an older story: Port Credit and Streetsville both grew out of separate villages before Mississauga absorbed them, and both still have a main-street feel with older, character homes mixed among newer infill.

The bulk of the housing stock

Between those two poles sit the subdivisions built through the 1970s to 1990s, Erin Mills, Meadowvale, Clarkson, and similar neighbourhoods of detached and semi-detached homes on curving suburban streets. It's the largest share of what's actually on the market at any given time, and it's where most families end up looking.

Mississauga's range, waterfront condos, village-scale older homes, and family subdivisions, pulls a correspondingly wide mix of buyers: condo investors near Square One, buyers chasing Port Credit's lake access, and families comparing square footage against Toronto prices just east.

Getting around

Pearson Airport anchors the city's north end. GO Transit's Lakeshore West line runs along the south through Port Credit and Clarkson into Union Station, MiWay covers local transit, and the Hazel McCallion LRT is being built along Hurontario Street to connect the city's north-south spine.
