Richmond Hill grew up along the Yonge Street corridor, and that history still shows in the housing stock closest to it, older, well-established neighbourhoods with mature trees and a mix of home ages. Bayview Hill, on the city's east side, is one of its highest-demand pockets: large detached homes, wide lots, and a school catchment that consistently draws move-up buyers from Toronto and Markham.

The newer, greener end of the city

Oak Ridges, in the city's north, sits closer to the Oak Ridges Moraine and Lake Wilcox and has grown with newer subdivisions built over the last two decades, generally larger homes with more separation between them than the denser, older parts of the city closer to Highway 407.

GO Transit's Richmond Hill line runs on a limited, mostly peak-period schedule to Richmond Hill GO station, Viva bus rapid transit covers Yonge Street and other major corridors, and Highway 404 runs along the city's east side.
